Exports of German food and agri products have reached a new record high in September. With a year on year increase of 10%, annual exports are currently worth 41,5 billion Euros. One of the main reasons for the continued growth is the high demand for food and agri products in third country markets.
With the agricultural machinery sector included, GEFA forecasts that exports will break the 60 billion Euro mark by the end of this year.

According to the German Farmers Association (DBV) German agribusiness exports have reached a new record high with an estimated export volume of nearly 54 billion Euros in 2010. This is a significant increase of around 9 % compared with last year. Despite the difficult economic climate the German agribusiness exports have continued to perform well and have proven to be less susceptible to critical conditions than exports of other industrial goods. Food and drink from Germany are more popular than ever.
The same is true for German agricultural and food technology: Made in Germany means innovation, high quality and safety. German companies are strong competition in the foreign markets, especially for high quality, value added products. Dairy and dairy products, especially cheese as well as meat and meat products are the most important food exports. Other important products are oilseeds, grains, sugar and sweets, tobacco, fruit and vegetable products, coffee, livestock, cocoa, beer and wine.
For the German Farmers Association (DBV) the development of the German agribusiness export market is a story of success. Over the last 10 years the export volume of German food and agricultural products has nearly doubled. In 2007 Germany overtook France for third place in the ranking of the largest agribusiness exporters in the world. Only the USA and the Netherlands have a greater market share than Germany.

A survey by the Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE) questioning 400 directors and export managers of German food and drink companies has found the current export climate to have improved once again. Participants say business in foreign markets has further increased compared with half a year ago. However, export expectations for the next 6 months have slightly declined.
Like the majority of the leading business institutes they are confident that the economic recovery of the Euro zone will continue over the next half year. Approximately 84% of the German food and drink exports are within the European Union. Among the most important export markets are the Netherlands, France, Austria and Italy. The survey results echo other recent surveys that have shown the German economy growing strongly on the back of rising exports
